Ed Sheeran has broken an incredible SEVEN records after just seven days on the official album and singles charts with the brand album “Divide”.
It is becoming the fastest-selling album by a male artist ever, taking the highest opening week album sales in Official Charts history ever for a male artist.
Divide sold an amazing 672,000 copies in its first week alone, with Official Charts confirming that 62% of sales came from physical sales, 26% from downloads and 12% streaming equivalent sales – and those streaming sales also break a record for the highest first-week streaming sales for an album ever, at 79,000 album streams.
The previous record was set only last week by Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer, with a mere 21,000.
His single “Shape Of You” has reached a whopping 346,675,297 views and counting since it’s release January 30th. The streams on Spotify reach almost half a billion. I repeat, half a billion. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this track alone hit One Billion streams very soon.
With the success of this album release, Ed Sheeran has 16 tracks in the top 20 charts currently. This is a clear sign that streaming has revolutionized the music industry and will do for many years to come. Charts are no longer the same as they once were thanks to the streaming revolution of the music industry.
